Gloria Estefan is the latest act to sign up for this year’s Liverpool Summer Pops Festival, with an Echo Arena date on Monday July 27.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to such a musical city like Liverpool,” said Gloria, 51.

Born Gloria Fajardo in Havana, Cuba, she escaped Fidel Castro’s regime for a life in Miami.

Her career began almost by chance, singing at a wedding with a local band called Miami Latin Boys. There she met Emilio Estefan, joined the band and they created would be called the ‘Miami sound’. Soon after, the band changed its name to Miami Sound Machine.

They went on to win five Grammys and sell more than 70 million records.
